We loved him because: So. Many. Reasons. All the reasons. Mostly because he was the best drinking buddy ever.
We lost him because: Original Witch Esther messed with his brain while he was dead all those times, and she convinced his alter-ego to be a maniacal vampire-killer. In order to turn him into the ultimate hunter, she made him an impossibly strong vampire; he ultimately died because his life force was tied to Elena's, and she drowned in a car.
