In 2006, the zombie-slaying action game "Dead Rising" revolutionized undead bashing by allowing players to pick up and use just about anything as a weapon. It was only a matter of time until developer Capcom decided to follow up with a sequel. But before you can dive into "Dead Rising 2," Xbox Live Arcade is providing a bit of a pregame show with the gap-filling prelude "Dead Rising 2: Case Zero."

"Case Zero" takes place two years after the misadventures at Willamette Mall found in the original "Dead Rising" and three years before the events of "Dead Rising 2." In this chapter, we meet the sequel's new protagonist, Chuck Greene, whose daughter, Katey, has been bitten and infected, forcing Chuck to frantically search for Zombrex, a drug that slows the zombie transformation. During their travels, they end up in Still Creek, a barren town that has just been overrun by the shambling horde. It now falls upon you to guide Chuck through the masses of undead while keeping young Katey alive.

The gameplay found in "Case Zero" is identical to what you will find in"Dead Rising 2." You'll be able to fashion powerful weapons by combining everyday objects. You will also earn Combo Cards, Prestige Points and new outfits, all of which will transfer to the sequel when it arrives in late September.

Media Link: "Zombieland" airs Friday, Sept. 10, on Starz.
