In 2001, the video game universe became divided. Some took the side of Master Chief and his alien-smashing compatriots, while others found the colorful combat a bit too slow for elite gamers. Whether you took the side of the Spartan or stood against him, one thing is certain: The "Halo" franchise is a force to be reckoned with, and its latest offering is ready to take center stage, eagerly awaiting your judgment.

In "Halo: Reach," you'll join Noble Team, the best of the best Spartan soldiers, as they forge the last line of defense against the Covenant army. As Earth's final hope for salvation, you and your squadmates will need to utilize every talent, weapon and gadget at your disposal to blast, frag and incinerate your foes.

The "Halo" franchise has always managed to evolve with each iteration, resulting in a steadily improving gaming experience. In "Halo: Reach," the improvements keep coming with a more detailed story, a new graphics engine and revamped AI. Our story, aliens-versus-humans plot aside, takes a new turn by concentrating on a colorful cast of characters found in Noble Team. Each member of the squad has his or her own personality, skill set, weapons and equipment, making them the most interesting cast in the franchise to date. The environments within the "Halo" franchise have always been awe-inspiring, but thanks to an all-new engine, "Halo: Reach" will have some of the most epic and detailed worlds that the Xbox 360 is capable of rendering. The game's AI has also been overhauled, creating a unique gaming experience that is built on enemies' reactions to you rather than prescripted, predictable moments.

While "Halo" has always done its best to weave a science-fiction tale through its amazing single-player mode, it's been known for its highly competitive multiplayer. Competing against or alongside other gamers has always been a great draw, but finding that perfect team has been a bit difficult. Now with Bungie's new social settings, you can take the guesswork out of your team building and only group with like-minded combatants. Throw in a few new modes of play, such as the objective-based Invasion or the frantic Arena, and you've got yourself the next level in online gaming.

Haters beware, because with its revolutionary multiplayer, amazing storytelling and technological achievements, Bungie's doing its best to win you over.
