For most of three previous seasons of NBC's spy-caper show "Chuck," airing Mondays, Morgan Grimes (Joshua Gomez) has spent his time either at the Los Angeles apartment of his best friend, big-box retail geek-turned-spy Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi), or at their workplace, the Burbank, Calif., Buy More electronics store.

Last season, Morgan became aware of Chuck's CIA activities, and this year, in season four, he's getting operational experience with Chuck and military man John Casey ( Adam Baldwin).

"I'm having a lot more fun," says Gomez, taking a break in his trailer on the show's sets at Warner Bros. Studios (also in Burbank). "I'm getting out of the Buy More, having more scenes with Zach and Adam. It's every boy's dream.

"We're having a blast. I think Zach and I are pretty happy that we get to do what we did from the beginning, play best friends and be friends on-screen."

At the same time, the CIA has co-opted the Buy More.

"Morgan's still (got his) Buy More cover," Gomez says, "and is holding down that world, but he's now also in the spy world."

Learning Chuck's secret has also helped Morgan -- as it has also helped Chuck -- evolve from a geeky man-boy into a still-geeky man.

"He was comfortable where he and Chuck were," Gomez says, "just doing their thing. Then all this stuff started to change, and it was a little hard for him.

"Now he's come around obviously and has grown up."

But Morgan's not quite grown-up enough to pack a pistol.

"When I've been handed a gun," Gomez says, "it's usually been empty. I haven't gotten there yet. I'm hoping that happens in season four, at least once. I shot one off in training -- that didn't go well. Based on that, I suspect I won't get one anytime soon."
