Nicolas Cage Denies Stealing Dog, Sues for Libel
Actor is suing former co-star Kathleen Turner
The Oscar winner began legal proceedings Friday (Feb. 8) against his former "Peggy Sue Got Married" co-star Kathleen Turner in London's High Court, report news sources.
The actress is being sued for libel for statements she made in her new autobiography, "Send Yourself Roses," in which she claims that Cage was busted for two DUIs and once even stole a Chihuahua.
"He caused so many problems," reads the book. "He was arrested twice for drunk-driving and, I think, once for stealing a dog. He'd come across a chihuahua he liked and stuck it in his jacket."
Turner, 53, alleges that Cage was acting up to prove that he didn't receive the role as a result of nepotism since director Francis Ford Coppola.
Cage, 44, retaliated last month with the statement, "I have never been arrested for anything in my life, nor have I stolen a dog." The actor intends to continue legal proceedings in the U.S. if a retraction isn't issued.
This is just the latest bizarre legal matter the actor has endured. Last month, Robert Furo, Jr., was sentenced to lockdown and rehab for stalking Cage. In October 2007, Furo was arrested for burglarizing the "National Treasure" actor's Newport Beach home. Furo, who is a tailor, was wandering around Cage's home in nothing but a leather jacket, a jacket belonging to the actor himself.
Cage is an Academy Award-winning actor whose recent credits include "Ghost Rider," "Grindhouse" and "Next." He recently reprised his role as treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates in "National Treasure: Book of Secrets."
