Sleuth comedy to return for second season

"Psych's" mental tricks have convinced the USA Network to pick it up for another season.

The sleuth comedy starring James Roday, Dule Hill and Corbin Bernsen will be back for 16 more episodes for its sophomore run.

"We couldn't be more excited about picking up 'Psych' for a second season," says Jeff Wachtel, USA's executive vice president, original programming. "The series was a homerun from pitch to pilot to series. [Producer Steve Franks], James, Dule, Corbin and the whole team have exceeded our expectations on every level. We're looking forward to even more success in season two."

The one-hour series centers on sleuth Shawn Spencer (Roday), whose mad powers of observation learned at his polic officer father's (Bernsen) knee are less suspect when he passes them off of psychic powers. With the help of his best pal Gus (Hill), Shawn impresses and irks the police force on a number of difficult cases.

"Psych" has been a solid performer since its July 7th premiere, in which it earned the highest ratings fora a new scripted series premiere on basic cable this year with a 4.63 household rating. The "Psych" team will be back in business in January for the second half of its first season.

USA also renewed the legit psychic drama "The Dead Zone" for another season along with the already announced returns of "Monk" and "The 4400."
