Thin the herd

The big, sprawling narrative of "Heroes'" first season worked because we were still getting to know the characters, and it allowed us to take the time to get acquainted and contributed to the idea that they all had a part to play in the final showdown. Since then, though, there has been little to no unifying storyline, and the upshot of having to service so many characters has been a lot of fractured storytelling. We suspect this season's shorter run (18 episodes) will help tighten the story arc; allowing a couple of regulars to fall away would too. Speaking of which ...
