NBC, 'Sopranos' Top TCA Awards
'Planet Earth' also wins two critics' awards
David Chase wasn't giving any answers about the end of "The Sopranos" at Saturday's Television Critics Awards. He did, however, offer up this:"Here's another clue for you all -- the walrus was Paulie."
OK, so a borrowed line from the Beatles' "Glass Onion" doesn't help much. But it did break up the room -- a frequent occurrence Saturday at the 23rd annual awards given out by the nation's television critics.
"The Sopranos" won two awards -- the honor for best drama and the heritage award, which honors shows that have had a lasting impact on pop culture. The night's biggest winner, though, was NBC, which won three program honors and one individual award, for Alec Baldwin's performance on "30 Rock."
NBC's zeitgeist-capturing "Heroes" won the TCA's top award, program of the year. The network's series also won for best comedy ("The Office") and best new show ("Friday Night Lights").
The Discovery Channel was also a multiple winner for its documentary series "Planet Earth." The visually stunning series won the awards for outstanding news and information programming and outstanding movie, miniseries or special.
"The Daily Show" correspondent John Oliver emceed the awards.
