One More Honor for 'The Sopranos'
Producers laud HBO show, '30 Rock' at awards
"The Sopranos" isn't eligible for an Oscar, so the long and ever-growing list of honors for its final season may be winding down. The landmark HBO drama picked up another trophy over the weekend as the Producers Guild of America honored it with its award for best drama series. It's the third time the PGA has honored the show; it previously won the award in 2000 and '05.
The win is the latest valedictory, which ended its run last summer. Since then "The Sopranos" has picked up the Emmy Award for best drama and swept the drama-series categories at the Screen Actors Guild two Sundays ago. It's also up for a pair of Writers Guild honors next week and a few other guild honors later in February.
The Producers Guild tapped another Emmy winner, "30 Rock," as its best comedy series at Saturday's awards ceremony. Like "The Sopranos," it's also coming off multiple wins at the SAG Awards.
Other winners in the TV categories were HBO's "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" for long-form, Discovery's "Planet Earth" for nonfiction and Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" for live entertainment/competition.
