Interactive game show debuts in May

ABC is taking the game of bingo out of church halls and community centers and into your living room.

The network has put a game show called "National Bingo Night" on the fast track for a premiere at the tail end of May sweeps. The show, hosted by "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" designer/carpenter Ed Sanders, is scheduled to debut Friday, May 18.

The game will pit one player against members of a studio audience at what the network is calling the "Bingo Plex arena," complete with 2 1/2-story tumbler that will spit out numbers. If the solo player hits Bingo first, he or she wins money; if someone in the audience does, the player goes home empty-handed and the audience pockets the cash.

Viewers at home will also be able to play along by printing cards from ABC.com and marking off their own numbers, then logging on for a chance to win prizes if they hit Bingo. Casting information is also available at ABC.com.

ABC has ordered six episodes of the show. Andrew Glassman ("Average Joe," "Three Wishes") is the executive producer.
