After a detour into films, "Joan of Arcadia" star Amber Tamblyn is returning to network television.

The 23-year-old actress will star in the CBS pilot "Babylon Fields," what The Hollywood Reporter describes as "an apocalyptic comedic drama about the undead trying to resume their former lives."

On the show, Tamblyn will portray a young woman who's had enough of her abusive father and kills him with the help of her mom. Unfortunately, he comes back.

Tamblyn broke out as the star of CBS' "Joan of Arcadia." Her film credits include "The Ring," "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," "The Grudge 2," and the upcoming "Stephanie Daley" opposite Tilda Swinton. She's also filming Mexican director Rigoberto Castaneda's English-language debut thriller "Blackout."

Also joining the CBS family is Oscar and Tony winner Rita Moreno who has signed on to co-star in an untitled drama pilot as the matriarch of a powerful Latin American family in south Florida. Moreno will play the mother of Jimmy Smits, who is one member of the three generations involved in the rum business.

Moreno's other TV work includes "Oz," "The Guardian," "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "The George Lopez Show." She won a best supporting actress Oscar in 1962 for "West Side Story."
