'Office' Work for Amy Poehler?

'Saturday Night Live' star in talks for spinoff

"Saturday Night Live" star Amy Poehler may be making a leap to primetime.

The "Weekend Update" co-anchor and versatile sketch performer is talking with NBC about starring in the network's spinoff of "The Office," several news reports say. Nothing has been signed yet, however, and the network and "Office" executive producer Greg Daniels are still keeping quiet about details of the show.

Though the title and premise of the new show have yet to be revealed, there has been a good deal of speculation that it will be built around someone who's not currently part of "The Office." That talk has also centered on the idea of a fairly well-known actor anchoring the show, as Steve Carell did for "The Office."

Poehler would fit that bill on both counts. She's been an "SNL" regular since 2001 and has taken on characters ranging from Hillary Clinton to Dakota Fanning. She's also co-anchored the "Weekend Update" segment for the past few seasons.

She also starred (with fellow "SNL" alum-turned-NBC prime-time star Tina Fey) in "Baby Mama," which scored a No. 1 box-office opening in late April and has made about $60 million thus far.

So far, "Human Giant's" Aziz Ansari is the only confirmed actor for the spinoff. The show is currently slated to premiere in early 2009.
