Comedy Central Crafts Cable Guy Cartoon
Two 'Garfield' scribes will team with Larry the Cable Guy
The "Blue Collar" star will co-write the half-hour pilot with feature scribes Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow ("Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties").
The show will focus on an average guy (voiced by Larry) running a cable TV station with a more refined society woman. Naturally, the two have very different ideas about programming and hilarity ensues.
"I am very excited about this animated project," says Larry the Cable Guy. "Comedy Central has always been good to me and I thank them for giving me the opportunity, once again, to live up to their low expectations."
Larry the Cable Guy (his birth certificate prefers "Daniel Lawrence Whitney") recently taped a one-hour special for Comedy Central set to air later this summer. Best known to a younger generation as the voice of Mater in Pixar's "Cars," the comic is part of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, which has yielded several wildly popular films for the cable network.
"Larry the Cable Guy's humor continues to resonate with the Comedy Central audience and we're very excited to extend our relationship with him through this animated pilot," says Lauren Corrao, the cable network's executive vice president of original programming and development. "His unique voice and heightened characterization should translate very nicely into the world of animation and what better form of flattery than to create an animated character based on one of Blue Collar comedy's mainstays."
