FOX will beat NBC's "Great American Singing Bee" to the screen

Blinded by the light, revved up like a...

If you can complete that lyric (plus nine variably difficult lines), FOX may have a reality show for you this summer.

FOX announced on Wednesday (June 20) that the new series "Don't Forget the Lyrics!" will premiere on Wednesday, July 11 at 9:30 p.m. ET and Thursday, July 12 at 8:30 p.m. The show will continue in half-hour installments on those nights for several weeks and, if successful, it could expand.

Emmy winner Wayne Brady will host.

On "Don't Forget the Lyrics!," contestants will choose song from different genres, decades and artists. They'll come to the stage to sing along with the house band, initially performing with the lyrics projected on a screen. When the lyrics vanish, the contestants merely have to finish the verse. After each successful completion singers can either continue on or take a cash prize and walk away. If a singer can complete 10 lyrics, they'll win a $1 million prize.

Isn't that simple? It's so simple that NBC has committed to a nearly identical series, titled "The Great American Singing Bee."

That series, though, doesn't have Brady. Most recently seen in guest spots on "Everybody Hates Chris," "How I Met Your Mother" and "30 Rock," Brady won a pair of Emmys for his hosting duties on his eponymous talk show, as well as an additional Emmy for his work on ABC's "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" Last year he hosted "Celebrity Duets" for FOX. Remember "Celebrity Duets"? We don't either.
