'Veronica Mars' Scribe Has 'X' Factor for CBS
Diane Ruggiero will write 'Mythological X,' one of three drama pilots on CBS' docket
"Ny-Lon" from the U.K. and the Israeli "Mythological X" are both pilot orders, while "Can Openers" will actually only be a drama presentation, according to the industry trades.
Based on a 2004 Channel 4 series, "Ny-Lon" focuses on a New York based record store clerk (Rashida Jones in the original version) and a London stock broker (Stephen Moyer originally) who meet in London and begin a cross-continental romance (which causes the show's title to make sense).
The pilot is set up at ABC Studios with Patti Carr and Lara Runnels writing.
The "Mythological X" pilot will be adapted by "Veronica Mars" veteran Diane Ruggiero and focuses on a young woman who learns from a psychic that she's already met and dated the man she's supposed to marry. Rather than getting a new psychic, this inspires her to revisit her romantic past.
Written by Elle Johnson, "Can Openers" focuses on a twentysomething woman and her friends and colleagues in a seven-year neuro-surgical residency. Finally the melding of "Grey's Anatomy" and "3 Lbs" we ordered.
Earlier this week, CBS picked up the drama "The Mentalist," which joined dramas "Eleventh Hour" and "The Meant to Be's," plus comedies "My Best Friend's Girl" and "Worst Week," on what is expected to be a reduced pilot slate for the network.
