CBS Renews 'Flashpoint'
Second season of 13 episodes will premiere in 2009
CBS announced on Friday (Sept. 19) that it has ordered a 13 episode second season for "Flashpoint."
Mostly, CBS's announcement was a confirmation that the network would be airing the 13 episodes, since Canada's CTV ordered the episodes last month for airing North of the Border, with CBS Paramount still on board as a co-producer.
"Flashpoint," which focuses on a specialized emergency rescue unit out of Toronto, has aired on both CBS and CTV this summer. CBS began by airing the drama, originally ordered in the spring as insurance against a prolonged writers strike, on Fridays and shifted it Thursdays early in its run.
For its season, "Flashpoint" is averaging more than 7.7 million viewers on CBS, but Thursday night's episode hit series highs in total viewers (9.66 million) and adults 18-49, with a preliminary 2.6 rating in the key demo.
The second season of "Flashpoint," which features Enrico Colantoni, Hugh Dillon and Amy Jo Johnson among its stars, will begin production in early 2009 in Toronto.
Neither CTV nor CBS has settled on a specific 2009 premiere date.
