Game show, 'Book Club' join 'Rock Star,' 'Big Brother'

CBS is adding a couple of newcomers to its summertime staples "Big Brother" and "Rock Star" this year, including a game show and its own, unscripted take on the perils of women in suburbia.

"Game Show Marathon," an adaptation of a popular U.K. format, will lead off the network's summer schedule when it debuts Wednesday, May 31. Hosted by Ricki Lake, the show will have six celebrities playing a different classic game show -- ranging from "The Price Is Right" to "Match Game" -- in each episode.

In June, CBS will unveil "Tuesday Night Book Club," an unscripted drama about a group of women who gather each week in the titular book club and talk about quite a bit more than just books. An all-star "Big Brother" and "Rock Star" will premiere in July.

"Together, these offerings represent everything viewers seek in summer entertainment -- games, guilty pleasures, escapism and energizing music," CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler says. "We think the combination of these light and fun new offerings with rebroadcasts of our top-rated comedies and dramas can make CBS the ultimate summer vacation destination for television viewers."

"Game Show Marathon" will air twice a week for two weeks, then settle into its regular time period, 8 p.m. ET Thursdays, in mid-June. The celebs taking part in the show are Tim Meadows ("Saturday Night Live"), ex-Playmate and "Surreal Life" star Brande Roderick, Kathy Najimy ("King of the Hill"), Leslie Nielsen ("Scary Movie 4"), *NSync's Lance Bass and former "Trading Spaces" host Paige Davis.

"Tuesday Night Book Club" is scheduled for, appropriately enough, Tuesdays at 10 p.m. starting June 13. "Big Brother" and "Rock Star" will join it on Tuesdays in July, making for a full night of original programming.

Season two of "Rock Star" will follow the search for a singer for Supernova, a supergroup consisting of Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted and onetime Guns 'n' Roses axman Gilby Clarke. It premieres Wednesday, July 5 and will air twice weekly, on Tuesday and Wednesday, beginning the following week.

The all-star "Big Brother" will have its premiere Thursday, July 5, then follow its familiar Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday schedule.
