Chris Parnell 'Guided' to ABC Comedy
'Veronica Mars' sheriff heads to Lifetime
Former "Saturday Night Live" cast member will try his luck at being a prime-time regular on ABC's midseason comedy "Miss/Guided."Parnell is a new addition to the cast of the single-camera comedy, which stars Judy Greer ("Arrested Development"). Elsewhere, Lifetime has added Michael Muhney ("Veronica Mars") and Cheyenne Jackson ("United 93") to the cast of its drama pilot "Family Practice," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Miss/Guided" centers on Greer's character, a former high-school wallflower who's now a guidance counselor at her alma mater. Parnell will play a fellow counselor, joining a cast that also includes Brooke Burns and Kristoffer Polaha.
Parnell was a regular on "SNL" for nine seasons, with a repertoire of characters that included Tom Brokaw and John McCain. He had a recurring part on NBC's "30 Rock" last season as Dr. Leo Spaceman (pronounced Spa-CHE-man) and has appeared in such films as "Anchorman," "Hot Rod" and the upcoming "Walk Hard."
At Lifetime, Muhney and Jackson will play brothers in "Family Practice," which centers on a wealthy, powerful family that runs a prestigious Chicago law firm. Muhney is best known for his role as Sheriff Don Lamb on "Veronica Mars." The pilot will be Jackson's first TV work; his stage credits include "All Shook Up" and "Altar Boyz."
