'Daily Show' veteran will talk about one topic per episode

Jon Stewart is set to executive produce "Important Things with Demetri Martin," a new Comedy Central series featuring the "Daily Show" contributor.

Produced by Stewart's Busboy Productions Inc., "Important Things" is tentatively scheduled to premiere in the second half of 2008.

The network says that in each episode, Martin will use a sketch and variety format to discuss a single topic, with hypothetical topics including "What Happens After We Die" and "Apples."

"Demetri Martin is truly an original," says Lauren Corrao, Comedy Central's executive vice president for original programming and development. "He's the only guy that can take you on a hilarious journey on the importance of apples for thirty minutes and make you laugh and make you think. He's a regular on 'The Daily Show,' we've toured with him, done a CD together and a one-hour special. Obviously, we're huge fans of Demetri and Busboy and are extremely excited about taking the next step with them."

In obligatory semi-funny Comedy Central press release style, Martin adds, "This announcement seems very important. I'm very excited to be at Comedy Central and looking forward to making one of the top shows of all time -– ever. Also, I need to clean my apartment and thank Jon Stewart."

A Yale grad, Martin is best known for his "Trendspotting" segments on "The Daily Show." He previously wrote and performed on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and will appear in the upcoming films "The Rocker" and "Kids In America."
