Comedy Central has ordered a second season of the political courtroom comedy "Lewis Black's Root of All Evil."

Viewers won't need to wait long for the second season of "Root," which will debut on the cable network on July 30 at 10:30 p.m. ET.

"I am conflicted," Black admits in a statement. "I am thrilled it's been picked up but it means I have to go back to work."

Created by Scott Carter and David Sacks, the series features Black as a judge presiding over a debate plucked from the pop culture landscape. Who's more evil, Paris Hilton or Dick Cheney? What's more evil, beer or weed? Each episode a rotating team of comedians appear to defend the evil merits of each side, leaving Black to render the final verdict.

"Root of All Evil" has regularly won its timeslot among men 18-24 and 18-34 and the series has reached 1.9 million total viewers (presumably spread over a variety of airings and reairings) each week.

"We are thrilled to renew 'Lewis Black's Root of All Evil' for a second season and have it return to our schedule so quickly with new episodes this summer," says Lauren Corrao, Comedy Central's president for original programming and development. "The pop-culture series struck a cord with our audience from the first episode and we know that Lewis and his fellow comedians have many more evil topics to deliberate over."

Among the comics appearing on the show's first season were Andrew Daly, Greg Giraldo, Andy Kindler, Patton Oswalt, Kathleen Madigan and Paul F. Tompkins.
