David Hemingson lands legal dramedy at network

Lawyer-turned-TV writer David Hemingson will draw on his former job for inspiration in his latest gig.

The "Kitchen Confidential" creator has earned a pilot commitment from ABC for a show focusing on young associates at a law firm. The project landed at ABC after bidding by several networks, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show will be Hemingson's first shot at an hour-long drama, although there are comedic elements as well. His previous credits, which include stints on "Just Shoot Me" and "Family Guy," are all half-hour comedies.

The new show, which will also feature the demanding partners for whom the associates work, draws on Hemingson's stint at an attorney at an entertainment-law firm in Los Angeles. He hopes to convey the feeling of camaraderie inspired by the insane hours and intense pressures of the job.

"We were a ragtag family of 25-year-olds in the dream capital of the world, finding and reinventing ourselves and dealing with the huge personalities of our clients and our bosses," he tells the HR.

The pilot will be produced by 20th Century Fox TV, where Hemingson has a development contract. He worked on two pilots for the studio last season, writing the ABC comedy "The Call" and the FOX animated pilot "Two Dreadful Children."
