Dennis Miller Gets 'Amne$ia'
Comedian to host NBC game show
Comedian Dennis Miller is returning to the NBC fold to host "Amne$ia," in which players dredge up accurate memories from their own lives. The show comes from producer Mark Burnett ("Survivor," "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?") and will likely premiere later this season.
In the game, Miller will ask questions pertaining to contestants' own pasts, challenging them to recall events as they really happened (and vetted by family, friends and others who were there). Miller says the concept, and its potential for comedy, drew him to the project.
"I got excited because I immediately realized it's a comedy first that just happens to be wrapped in a game show package, and that allows me to be who I am," he says.
The show will be Miller's first broadcast-network gig since he guested on a handful of "Boston Public" episodes in 2003. He's set to launch a sports talk show on the Versus network next week and also has a daily syndicated radio show.
A six-year regular and "Weekend Update" anchor on "Saturday Night Live" in the 1980s and early '90s, Miller won multiple Emmys for writing on his HBO show "Dennis Miller Live." He was the color analyst on "Monday Night Football" for two seasons and had a talk show on CNBC in 2004-05. He also hosted GSN's "Grand Slam" earlier this year.
Burnett has a second game show, "My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad," in development at NBC, and the network is working on a couple of other concepts as well. Game shows are also in the works at CBS and FOX, and a number of them could make it onto the air if union writers go on strike for any length of time.
