Diablo Cody Cameos on '90210' With Tori Spelling
The Oscar-winning screenwriter will film her episode by the end of January
"They haven't told me yet. I'm being completely honest. I'm dying to know," she says Wednesday (Jan. 14), following the TCA press tour presentation for Showtime's " United States of Tara," a series she wrote starring Toni Collette as a woman dealing with dissociative identity disorder.
One reporter tells Cody that the buzz is that she'll be playing herself and consult the character Donna Martin -- played by the returning Tori Spelling -- about something fashion-related. The episode may or may not be directed by former cast member Jason Priestley.
"No," Cody, 30, exclaims. "They have not told me this! Are you making this up? I swear to God, I did not know that. I love Jason Priestly. I love Tori Spelling. I'm so psyched."
Cody, born Brook Busey, would be a good fit for the show with her edgy sensibilities and looks. At the press tour panel, she layered an argyle cardigan with a skull-and-crossbones motif over her dress.
The "Juno" writer is a longtime fan of the show, having blogged on it for Entertainment Weekly. She reveals that her public love for the show was what landed her the plum role.
"I don't know if they want me talking about it because I'm sure they're deeply ashamed, but Im very excited," she admits. "I'm completely obsessed with the show -- both incarnations, old and new. They actually called and said, 'Do you want to be on "90210?"' I said, 'I don't care if you want me to wear a bear suit. I'll do anything on "90210."'
Filming on the episode will take place at the end of the month. Until then, Cody is trying to keep her excitement in check.
"I've been talking about it so much that I'm convinced they're going to call me and be like, 'You're out.'"
