'Dog the Bounty Hunter' Weds After Daughter's Death
Despite his grief, Duane Chapman ties the knot with longtime companion Beth Smith
The star of A&E's reality show "Dog the Bounty Hunter" received the blessing of his remaining 10 children to proceed with his leashing ceremony, which took place Saturday, May 20 in Honolulu, Hawaii at sunset, report news sources.
Barbara Katy Chapman, 23, was killed in a car accident near her home of Fairbanks, Alaska on Friday. The entire Chapman clan unanimously voted to celebrate Barbara's life with the planned wedding, which will be featured on the Aug. 8 episode of the show.
For the ceremony, the self-proclaimed world's best bounty hunter sported his trademark pompadour/mullet along with white jeans, a white leather vest and American Indian jewelry to honor the Chirakawa blood on his mother's side of the family. Smith wore an off-white lace gown by Eduardo Lucero. Boris Krutonog, the show's co-executive producer, performed best man duties.
Lucky guests left with dog tag party favors that read, "Dog & Beth. Captured. May 20, 2006."
The couple has been together for 16 years and have two children together, added to his other eight offspring. They planned to honeymoon in Fiji, but may postpone the trip because of Barbara Chapman's death. She is survived by her father, mother Lyssa Greene and son Travis, 4.
"Dog the Bounty Hunter" is in its third season on A&E and has gained a loyal following for its unconventional but charismatic star. The tattooed Chapman is an ex-con who turned a new leaf, embracing his faith and his calling to bring fugitives to justice. He's known for his gruff yet caring nature, often exhibited to those he captures.
In June 2003, Chapman first came to the public eye when he captured Max Factor cosmetics heir Andrew Luster, who was convicted in absentia of poisoning and rape. Mexican authorities wanted Luster handed over to them, denied Chapman and his gang permission to leave the country, declared them fugitives from justice and tried to get them extradited to Mexico for sentencing. The charges were eventually dropped.
