NBC show will compete with FOX's identical Wayne Brady-hosted series

NBC has recruited N Sync and "Dancing With The Stars" veteran Joey Fatone to host "The Singing Bee."

The network initially announced "The Singing Bee" for a nebulous fall premiere date. That premiere was bumped up to July 10 when FOX attempted to premiere a copy-cat competition show, "Don't Forget the Lyrics!" on July 11.

On both shows, contestants will engage in a karaoke-style sing-off. They'll begin by singing along to familiar songs with the words in front of them, but when the lyrics vanish, the contestants have to complete the verses perfectly.

Wayne Brady will host FOX's version.

As for NBC, they're pleased to get their host on such short notice.

"We are also thrilled to have Joey on board to host. He brings an added burst of energy and a legion of fans with his musical talent and infectious personality," says Craig Plestis, the network's executive vice president for alternative programming, development and specials.

Fatone finished second on the most recent installment of ABC's "Dancing With The Stars," adding to his post-boy band resume. His film credits include the hit "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," the Oscar nominated drama "The Cooler" and the Lance Bass vehicle "On the Line," which earned neither awards nor money.

The premiere of "The Singing Bee" is set for 9:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, July 10 following a 90-minute episode of "America's Got Talent."

"This fun-filled family show is going to have viewers singing along with their TV sets," says Plestis. "Coupled with 'America's Got Talent,' we've got two great hours of TV that America can fall in love with every Tuesday night."
