FOX Instantly Cancels 'Anchorwoman'
One hour and out for Lauren Jones series
Ignored by viewers and savaged by critics, FOX's "Anchorwoman" has been pulled after only one airing.FOX premiered the unscripted comedy, following former WWE diva Lauren Jones' quest to become a small market Texas news anchor, on Wednesday (Aug. 22) night with a pair of half-hour installments. The results weren't impressive.
"Anchorwoman" averaged just over 2.7 million viewers for the hour (a repeat of "America's Next Top Model" on The CW did 2.1 million) and did a 1.0 rating in the key 18-49 demographic.
Audiences may not have seen much of "Anchorwoman," but FOX has seen more than enough. By Wednesday afternoon, new FOX Wednesday schedules for the next three weeks featured "'Til Death" repeats in its place.
Unaired "Anchorwoman" episodes will presumably be available on FOX's website and OnDemand service.
At least "Anchorwoman," which FOX scheduled before Jones' anchoring experience even began, joins an impressive club of shows that only aired once. The group includes the Heather Graham dud "Emily's Reasons Why Not," as well as several recent unscripted FOX shows like "Who's Your Daddy" and "The Rich List."
