FOX Likely to Tune into 'Glee'
'Boldly Going Nowhere' also close to series order
FOX is on the verge of adding two more series -- the high-school dramedy "Glee" and the comedy "Boldly Going Nowhere" -- to its roster. The two shows are among a handful of pilots network brass screened this week, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, are the leading contenders to be ordered to series. The news apparently isn't as good for sci-fi project "Virtuality" and the Wilmer Valderrama show "Ernesto."
Both "Glee" and "Boldly Going Nowhere" could conceivably jump into production right away, as FOX ordered extra scripts along with their pilots. If that's the case, they could conceivably become part of the network's midseason plans. "Glee," which centers on a high-school glee club and features musical numbers, has been mentioned as a potential partner for "American Idol."
For that to happen, FOX would have to move some pieces around on its midseason schedule. The network currently has "Fringe" and the new drama "Lie to Me" in the post-"Idol" spots starting in January.
"Glee" comes from "Nip/Tuck" creator Ryan Murphy, who directed the pilot and co-wrote it with Ian Brennan and Brad Falchuk.
"Boldly Going Nowhere" comes from Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton and Charlie Day, the creators and stars of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," along with fellow "Sunny" scribe Adam Stein. It chronicles the day-to-day workings on a spaceship; think "The Office" meets " Star Trek."
"Ernesto," an hour-long comedy which stars Valderrama as an innocent young man looking for his father in Los Angeles, likely won't go forward, the HR says. "Virtuality," about a mission to a far-off solar system, could still be part of the mix for next fall.
