Foxworthy Proves FOX-Worthy Host
Comic will host 'Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?'
Best known for identifying the characteristic traits of rednecks, comic Jeff Foxworthy will help FOX identify variably intelligent grown-ups as the host of the quiz show "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?"
FOX is premiering the new format, from producer Mark Burnett, on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 9 p.m. ET post-"Idol" and will bounce the show around its schedule to Wednesday and then Thursday in the weeks to come.
The show focuses on knowledge that most American adults had at one point, but may have forgotten. Grownups will be quizzed on subjects they would have studied in grade school, with questions coming from actual 1st grade through 5th grade math, science, history and geography text books. If the adults are stumped, there's some provision for them to cheat and ask actual grade-schoolers the answer.
"Jeff Foxworthy's humor is an ideal complement to this family-friendly format," Burnett says in a network statement. "I'm delighted that Jeff has agreed to come on board."
Foxworthy has written more than 20 books, appeared in a trio of "Blue Collar Comedy" movies (and in the franchise's small screen equivalent) and starred in his own sitcom on ABC and NBC.
