Drama with Driver, Izzard will debut in spring 2007

LOS ANGELES -- FX has greenlit its second new drama series for 2007, giving a 13-episode order to a show about con artists called "The Riches."

The series, which stars Eddie Izzard ("Ocean's Twelve") and Minnie Driver ("Good Will Hunting," "Ella Enchanted"), is scheduled to premiere in the spring of 2007. The two Brits, each embarking on their first regular role in an American TV series, will play a married couple with three kids who make their living as itinerant scam artists.

"We're excited to pick up FX's first 'family show,' albeit a show and a family unlike any television viewers have seen before," FX President John Landgraf says. "The pickup of 'The Riches' reflects two of FX's goals: first, our continued efforts to make innovative, high-quality television shows, and second, our commitment to expanding the boundaries of our successful original series brand."

Playwright Dmitry Lipkin created "The Riches" (which was formerly called "Lowlife"), and Carl Franklin ("Devil in a Blue Dress," "Out of Time") directed the pilot episode, in which Wayne (Izzard) and Dahlia (Driver) Malloy find themselves taking up residence in suburbia under the name the Riches. The show will follow the family as it tries to adjust to its new identity and the lifestyle of middle-class America.

Izzard won an Emmy in 1999 for his stand-up special "Dress to Kill." His credits also include "Romance & Cigarettes" and "My Super Ex-Girlfriend." Driver, who earned an Oscar nomination for "Good Will Hunting," has also had a recurring part on "Will & Grace" and has also appeared in "The Phantom of the Opera" and "Grosse Pointe Blank."

In addition to "The Riches," FX will also add "Dirt," which stars Courteney Cox as the editor of a tabloid magazine, to its schedule next year. "Dirt" is slated to premiere in January.
