'Bionic Woman,' Producer Part Ways
'X-Files' vet Glen Morgan leaves NBC show
Glen Morgan, a long-time writer and producer of "The X-Files," is leaving the show, citing the usual creative differences in his decision. He and the show's other exec producers, David Eick and Jason Smilovic, had different visions in mind for the reworking of the 1970s series, the showbiz trade papers report.
"Glen Morgan has helped create a great template for 'Bionic Woman' but has decided to pursue other endeavors now," says a statement from Universal Media Studios, which produces the show. "We wish him the best."
Eick ("Battlestar Galactica") has been a constant throughout the development of "Bionic Woman," which stars British actress Michelle Ryan as the title character. He initially teamed with Laeta Kalogridis ("Alexander") to write the pilot script.
Kalogridis eventually left the show, and Smilovic, who created "Kidnapped" for NBC last season, came in to rework the pilot script with Eick. Morgan also came on later in the development process and was to serve as showrunner alongside Eick and Smilovic.
The show has also recast the role of Ryan's sister, replacing Mae Whitman with Lucy Hale, and added former "Grey's Anatomy" star Isaiah Washington in a recurring role.
Despite all that, "Bionic Woman" is still on track to premiere Wednesday, Sept. 26. It's currently shooting its fifth episode.
