'Ghost' Oscar winner won a Tony for producing 'Thoroughly Modern Millie'

"The View" host Whoopi Goldberg will have the best view in the house for the 62nd Annual Tony Awards.

CBS announced Thursday (May 8) that the Oscar, Golden Globe, Emmy and Grammy winner will host the Tony telecast on Sunday, June 15.

"I'm very excited to be hosting the Tony Awards," Goldberg says. "I love Broadway and I'm thrilled to be doing anything for the first time. I'm gonna have a blast."

Goldberg is also a Tony winner, snagging her award in 2002 as a producer on "Thoroughly Modern Millie."

"Whoopi Goldberg is everything you look for in a host -- she's funny, she's smart, she's won every award there is," says Jack Sussman, executive vice president, specials, music and live events, CBS Entertainment. "The industry has honored her and the audience obviously adores her. We're looking forward to having her be our ringleader on the Tony Awards on June 15."

Goldberg, currently serving as part of the hosting ensemble on "The View," received a pair of Emmy nominations for stints as host of the Academy Awards.

This ends a two-year streak of hostless (or group-hosted) Tony Awards telecasts, coming after a three-year run by Hugh Jackman.
