'Melrose Place' star takes lead in comedy pilot

Heather Locklear's last comedy pilot at ABC didn't make the cut this season, but she and the network are giving it another try.

The former "Melrose Place" and "Spin City" star has taken the title role in "See Jayne Run," a comedy about a single mom trying to fit her new baby into her type-A life, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The pilot is Locklear's second in as many years for ABC; last season she starred in the comedy "Women of a Certain Age," which wasn't picked up.

"Jayne" will feature Locklear as an investment banker who's used to living on her own terms and figures she'll be able to keep doing so even after having a child, which she decides to raise on her own. Not surprisingly, things don't quite go as planned.

Locklear is joining a cast that also includes "Big Day" alumni Kurt Fuller and Stephen Rannazzisi, Ava Gaudet ("Ugly Betty") and Jarrad Paul ("Monk," "40 Days and 40 Nights"). Alana Sanko ("Murphy Brown," "Just for Kicks") created the show and is executive producing with Peter Traugott ("Jake in Progress," "The Showbiz Show").

The long list of credits for Locklear includes "Dynasty," "T.J. Hooker" and numerous TV movies in addition to her time on "Spin City" and "Melrose Place." Her last series-regular gig was NBC's there-and-gone "LAX" in 2004-05.

She's also guested on "Boston Legal," "Scrubs" and "Two and a Half Men" and earlier this year starred in the Lifetime movie "Angels Fall."
