J. Lo Moves to 'Echo Park'
Actress developing series for FX
LOS ANGELES -- Jennifer Lopez's first foray into TV production, "South Beach," didn't make much of a splash. So she's moving to a different neighborhood. The actress and singer is executive producing a half-hour project called "Echo Park" for FX. The show, which has a script order from the cable network, will focus on the clash of cultures in the gentrifying L.A. neighborhood, Variety reports.
Separately, Lopez is also producing a show for MTV called "Moves," which will follow dancers trying to break into the industry. Lopez, who got her start as a Fly Girl dancer on "In Living Color," is likely to appear on the show as well.
Both shows will be produced by Nuyorican Productions, Lopez's production company. Partner Simon Fields will share executive producer credit with her; Ian Edelman is writing the "Echo Park" script.
"South Beach," a prime-time soap set in the glitzy Miami neighborhood, debuted on UPN in January -- a couple of weeks before it was announced that UPN would be merging with The WB to form The CW this coming season. It lasted seven weeks, averaging fewer than 2 million viewers per week.
On screen, Lopez most recently appeared in "Monster-in-Law" and "An Unfinished Life." She recently left the big-screen adaptation of "Dallas" and has a couple projects -- the dramas "Bordertown" and "El Cantante," which also features her husband, Marc Anthony -- awaiting release dates.
