ABC Gets 'In Bed' with Jennifer Weiner
Author will develop series projects for studio
Author Jennifer Weiner is giving television a try.The writer of such novels as "Good in Bed" and "In Her Shoes" has signed a development deal with ABC Studios. The two-year agreement calls for her, per usual, to create and executive produce series projects for the studio, the showbiz trade papers report.
It does not, however, include rights to any of the books she's already written. "In Her Shoes" has already been turned into a feature film starring Toni Collette and Cameron Diaz, and her novel "Little Earthquakes" and short story collection "The Guy Not Taken" are in the works at Universal and DreamWorks, respectively.
Although Weiner has never written for television, ABC Studios boss Mark Pedowitz still figures she's a good bet, citing the "legions of fans" of her novels.
"Millions have read her books, seen the film and will soon have another source to enjoy her humor and heart on television," Pedowitz says.
