Singer to produce adaptation of South American show

NBC is once again looking overseas -- and to its co-chairman's former company -- for new material. The network has also enlisted Grammy winner Justin Timberlake's help.

Timberlake is teaming up with Reveille, the production company founded by NBC co-chairman Ben Silverman, to bring a Peruvian series called "My Problem with Women" to the United States. The show has a script commitment from the network, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"My Problem with Women" centers on Jose, a man in his 30s who has never had a successful romantic relationship. He begins seeing a therapist to figure out why.

The project is Timberlake's foray into producing a TV series. He'll serve as an executive producer of the show, along with Reveille's Howard T. Owens and Todd Cohen and Jaime Carbajal, who produced the show in Peru. European company Power and Frecuencia Latina International, the global arm of a Peruvian company, are involved as well.

"My Problem with Women" is one of several projects with roots overseas that NBC is developing. The network has picked up "Kath & Kim," an adaptation of an Australian comedy, and is also working on American versions of the Britcom "Father Ted" and the Colombian drama "Sin Tetas No Hay Paraiso." It's also producing a series based on "Robinson Crusoe" with Power and will import the Canadian drama "The Listener" later this year.

The network also airs "The Office," which is based on a BBC series and has gone on to Emmy-winning success here.
