Runner-up breaks her foot backstage

Katharine McPhee can't seem to catch a break. Or rather, she can, and that's the problem.

This season's "American Idol" runner-up broke her foot Tuesday after tripping backstage at the "Idol" tour's stop in Charlotte, N.C. According to several news reports, X-rays taken after the show revealed she suffered a hairline fracture in her left foot.

Despite the mishap, the 22-year-old went through with her performance, singing her songs while wearing slippers.

The injury continues a string of bad luck for McPhee on the "American Idol" tour, which has been on the road for about a month now. She missed the first few weeks of the tour after contracting bronchitis, which also caused her to lose her voice.

She was well enough to serve as a guest host of ABC's "The View" last week, but that night -- Thursday, July 27 -- she missed what was to have been her first appearance on the tour when bad weather grounded her flight to Pittsburgh. She joined her fellow finalists in Washington the next night.

McPhee plans to remain with the tour as she recovers from the fracture. Just don't expect to see her performing in high heels anytime soon.
