Grammer earns award for 'Simpsons' voice-over work

LOS ANGELES -- Kelsey Grammer has won his fifth Primetime Emmy Award, and he didn't even have to appear on camera to get it.

Grammer, who has won four previous times for "Frasier," picked up his latest honor for his voice-over work as Sideshow Bob on "The Simpsons." He reprised the long-running nemesis to Bart Simpson in an episode last season called "The Italian Bob."

The voice-over Emmy is one of a handful of awards that are determined by juries rather than a nomination process. The winners were announced Wednesday by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

In addition to the voice-over award, the academy also announced the winners for outstanding costumes for a variety/music program (FOX's "MADtv," ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" and PBS' "Benise! Nights of Fire") and individual achievement in animation (a number of winners, including animators on Cartoon Network's "Robot Chicken" and "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends," HBO's "Classical Baby 2" and Nickelodeon's "Escape from Cluster Prime").

Grammer joins a long list of "Simpsons" performers who have won the voice-over Emmy. Regular cast members Dan Castellaneta and Hank Azaria have won it multiple times, and Julie Kavner, Yeardley Smith, Nancy Cartwright, Marcia Wallace and Jackie Mason have also been honored for their work on the FOX show.

Prior to this year, Grammer's most recent Emmy win came for the final season of "Frasier" in 2004. He's been nominated as an actor or producer 16 times.
