Producers told to wrap up story in 13 episodes

It looks like NBC will stick with its drama "Kidnapped" through its initial order of 13 episodes, but that will most likely be all for the show.

The series, which was to follow the search for the abducted son of a wealthy New York couple over a full season, has struggled in the ratings, drawing only about 7 million viewers per week in its first two episodes. Its ratings among adults 18-49, NBC's primary measure of success, have been similarly soft.

As such, NBC has asked the show's producers to wrap up the story by the end of 13 episodes, according to the showbiz trade papers. In return, the network has committed to the full order of 13 shows.

"Kidnapped," which stars Jeremy Sisto, Delroy Lindo, Timothy Hutton and Dana Delany, has earned mostly positive reviews, but that notice hasn't translated into audience. Part of its struggles are attributable to the competition: It airs at 10 p.m. Wednesdays opposite CBS' "CSI: NY" and, starting this week, ABC's heavily hyped new show "The Nine." Additionally, Wednesday is arguably NBC's weakest night, and "Kidnapped" is saddled with an incompatible lead-in in "The Biggest Loser."

The show is also one of two serialized abduction stories airing this season, neither of which has done very well. The other show, FOX's "Vanished," has drawn about 7.3 million viewers per week thus far.
