The network wants more time to promote the new season

The "Project Runway" era on Lifetime will begin a little later than initially planned.

The cable network says it's holding off on debuting "Project Runway" until the new year, rather than launching it in November as initially planned. That will mean more time off between seasons -- and a better chance for Lifetime to hype the show's switch from Bravo to Lifetime.

"In order to ensure that 'Project Runway' gets the launch this outstanding series deserves, we are planning to premiere its first season on Lifetime in January 2009," the network says in a statement. "We look forward to ringing in the New Year by giving 'Project Runway's' loyal fans a superlative season six."

Lifetime also says that host/executive producer Heidi Klum, judges Michael Kors and Nina Garcia and fashion mentor Tim Gunn will all make the transition to the show's new home.

"Project Runway" ends its five-season run on Bravo next month. With the delay in the Lifetime launch, the show will return to its normal schedule of two cycles per year. A specific premiere date will be announced later.
