"One Ocean View," a new ABC reality series premiering Monday, July 31, focuses on a group of singles sharing a house, but executive producer Jonathan Murray says there's a vital difference between this new show and his long-running MTV hit "The Real World."

"They don't get drunk and vomit off the side of the deck, which, quite honestly, I have seen enough in my lifetime," Murray says of his ABC cast.

Unlike "Real World," with its party-til-they-drop cast members, "One Ocean View" is set inside a fantastically decorated Fire Island beach house, where 11 single, career-driven New Yorkers meet on weekends to unwind from their high-pressure jobs in the city.

"This is a docu-soap, which is what I also consider 'The Real World,'" Murray says. "It's the story of a group of people who meet through taking a summer house together. In New York, a lot of people who work at high-pressure jobs in Manhattan rent these houses on Fire Island and in the Hamptons, and they gather there each weekend to sort of let their hair down and take one last gasp at youth before they really have to grow up.

"In our cast, we have a number of people who work on Wall Street, a number of entrepreneurs who run their own businesses, and they work really hard during the week. What this show captures is that unique time in your life when you are in your first really important job, but you don't feel completely like a grown-up. You still want to have fun on the weekend. You're still single or struggling with a relationship, and you haven't taken that next step to getting married and starting to have kids."

The housemates are:

Anelka -- 23, a senior account executive for a photography company

Heather -- 27, a sales account manager and erstwhile men's magazine model

John -- 24, a Wall Street broker

Mary -- 24, the founder of a designer handbag company

K.J. -- 26, the handsome operator of two women's health-club franchises

Lisa -- 23, an exotic dancer putting herself through graduate school

Miki and Radha -- 27, identical twin co-owners of an organic pizzeria

Usman -- 27, a self-absorbed and chauvinistic Wall Street lawyer

Zack -- 22, a corporate headhunter

Lauren -- 23, a junior analyst for a hedge fund and, coincidentally, Zack's ex-girlfriend

After finding and renting the beach house used in the series, Murray says, the production team placed a notice on the craigslist.org and selected participants for the show from the pool of applicants they received. It's an eclectic group, to say the least, and several of them have real breakout potential, Murray adds.

"Usman is a fascinating character," he says. "In one scene, he's standing in front of a mirror fixing his hair and talking about how he's so excited because every morning when he wakes up, he's better-looking than the day before. From the moment he hits the island, he is on the make, trying to find someone, and he's concerned there are too many 'fat girls' around. And he is like chalk on a blackboard to Mary, who is ready to kick him in the mouth. She just can't take his macho-ism."

The series, which was filmed between Memorial Day and the Fourth of July this summer, is scheduled to air in six weekly episodes.
