Lawsuit: Sex and Booze Days with 'Maury'
Staffer claims she was forced to perform demeaning acts in a sexually charged work environment
Bianca Nardi, who worked on the show as a producer for six years, outlines in the complaint she filed in New York on Monday (April 24) that Povich was having an affair with an employee, creating a hostile work environment not only because of this favoritism, but also turning a blind eye to the sexual conduct of the other producers.
Povich, who is married to Connie Chung, allegedly had "a long stemmed [sic], intimate and sexual relationship" with coordinating producer Donna Benner Ingber, who in turn was lax at her duties and reportedly made Nardi do her work, according to the document found on TMZ.com. The defendant also claims that Ingber would "drunk dial" her, calling her while intoxicated to discuss her sexual relations with Povich and other men.
The lawsuit also claims that because Povich and Ingber got away with their affair, executive producer Paul Faulhaber felt allowed to take his sexual frustrations out on Nardi. Among the many inappropriate things she says she was forced to do under threat of being fired include the following:
According to Nardi, Faulhaber claimed most of these activities were to be used for portions of the program.
In addition to this sexual harassment, she says that Ingber made racial slurs against blacks and "publicly rebuked [her] ... for getting fat and for having a fat ass." She is also suing them for defamation, namely posting a picture of her in the show's lobby with orders not to let her enter the premises.
Nardi is seeking $10 million in damages, as well as $30 million in punitive damages.
A spokesman for "The Maury Povich Show" issued the following statement tells TMZ: "We are aware of the allegations of harassment made by Ms. Nardi. We have done a complete and thorough investigation of her allegations of harassment and we are satisfied that there is no merit to them. NBC Universal is committed to maintaining a workplace that is free of discrimination or harassment and we promptly investigate all such claims. We stand behind our experienced and dedicated staff fully."
