'Melrose Place' Spinoff May Join '90210' on The CW
So far, there's no plot, script or word about original series guest stars
The CW and CBS Paramount Network TV are eyeing an update of "Melrose Place" to follow in the footsteps of their current Aaron Spelling spinoff " 90210," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Thus far, the plans are in a nascent stage, with no plot outlined or writer on board yet.
Darren Star, creator of " Beverly Hills, 90210" and "Melrose Place," is not expected to be involved with The CW update, which may hit the airwaves for the 2009-2010 season.
The original "Melrose Place" debuted in 1992 and ran for seven seasons. It starred Heather Locklear, Marcia Cross, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Andrew Shue, Grant Show, Alyssa Milano, Doug Savant, Jack Wagner, Daphne Zuniga, Laura Leighton, Thomas Calabro, Josie Bisset, Rob Estes and Kelly Rutherford. Both Estes and Rutherford are already on CW shows,"90210" and " Gossip Girl," respectively.
The new "90210" has increased the CW's viewership among women 18-34 on Tuesday nights. Although a younger, contemporary cast now walks the halls of West Beverly Hills High, that didn't stop "Beverly Hills, 90210" alums Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty from reprising their roles for a few episodes each.
