For one day -- guest appearance set for October

"Today" show anchor Meredith Vieira will return to her former stomping grounds on "The View" next month.

Vieira, who spent nine years on ABC's daytime talk show before moving to NBC's "Today" last year, will be a guest on the show Monday, Oct. 8. She'll be there to talk about her other job as host of the syndicated game show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," and an upcoming DVD game based on the show.

Vieira's departure in June 2006 set in motion a host of changes to "The View." A few weeks after she left, fellow original co-host Star Jones announced she'd be taking off too. Her public announcement apparently didn't sit too well with host and executive producer Barbara Walters, who sent Jones packing immediately.

Rosie O'Donnell took Vieira's spot last fall for a controversy-filled season that included heated political discussions with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck and an ongoing war of insults with Donald Trump. O'Donnell left earlier in the summer, and was replaced by Whoopi Goldberg at the start of the show's 11th season this month. Frequent guest host Sherri Shepherd joined the proceedings full-time this week.

Vieira won a Daytime Emmy in 2005 for outstanding game show host on "Millionaire." She and her "View" cohorts were nominated for outstanding talk show host eight times (the show has never won in that category, despite a Susan Lucci-esque nine straight nominations).
