'Fifth Grader' team develops new game show

The folks behind "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" will test people's memories in a different way with a new game show.

NBC has bought a quiz show called "Amne$ia" from "Fifth Grader" producers Mark Burnett and Roy Bank. The concept is like any other game show -- contestants answering increasingly difficult questions for escalating amounts of money. The twist here is that the questions will come from the contestants' own lives.

"'Amne$ia' is a relatable and nostalgic game show that's deceptively simple -- and yet exposes how shaky all of our fondest memories can be," says Craig Plestis, head of alternative programming at NBC. "With Mark's track record and brand recognition, the show promises to be the latest in his string of successful programs."

Adds Burnett: "The simple, relatable concepts always cut through and get attention on television. 'Amne$ia' fits that to a 'T,' and I'm excited for it to be my next big hit on NBC."

The game will ask players to recall events from their past, presumably as verified by family, friends or other outside sources. NBC hasn't tapped a host yet, but the show is targeted to make its debut sometime during the 2007-08 season.

Burnett and Bank scored a surprise hit with FOX's "Fifth Grader," which drew big ratings for its post-"American Idol" premiere and has continued its solid performance through the summer. The two previously worked together on "The Restaurant" and "The Casino."
