Network makes reality-show deal with Victoria Beckham

Almost immediately after soccer superstar David Beckham signed his unheard-of deal to play in the United States, rumors began swirling about a potential reality series following him and his wife, former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham.

Those rumors are now fact, as NBC has closed a deal with Victoria Beckham for a show chronicling her move to Los Angeles.

Stories about the proposed show first popped up in the British press -- where the Beckhams are pretty much always news -- earlier this week, and NBC made the official announcement Wednesday afternoon. The show will focus primarily on Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice, as she makes the transition from London to L.A., where her husband will begin play for the Galaxy of Major League Soccer later this year.

"The series will give viewers a glimpse into what makes Victoria so popular and admired as one of the most glamorous women in the world," NBC Entertainment chief Kevin Reilly says in a statement. "She makes news wherever she goes and our audience can now become insiders in this fascinating personal view of what being 'Posh' truly represents."

"American Idol" creator and former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller is set to executive produce the show, which will have a six-episode run in the summer.

"For the past few years, I've been inundated with requests to make a show based on Victoria's real life," Fuller says. "After much thought, we have finally decided to do it. NBC will be our partners. Both Kevin Reilly and Craig Plestis [NBC's head of alternative programming] have been extremely supportive in allowing us to do something a little different."

David Beckham will no doubt be featured in the series, but several reports say he's unlikely to be front and center. The former Manchester United star and England national team captain signed a contract and endorsement deal worth as much as $250 million to jump to Major League Soccer in January -- although only $27.5 million of that figure, over five seasons, will actually be for his work on the pitch.
