'Mother' Actor Harris Confirms He's Gay
Actor says he's 'very content' in his sexuality
The "How I Met Your Mother" co-star officially came out of the closet following recent reports that he had denied being homosexual, according to People.
"The public eye has always been kind to me, and until recently I have been able to live a pretty normal life," Harris tells the celebrity magazine. "Now it seems there is speculation and interest in my private life and relationships.
"So, rather than ignore those who choose to publish their opinions without actually talking to me, I am happy to dispel any rumors or misconceptions and am quite proud to say that I am a very content gay man living my life to the fullest and feel most fortunate to be working with wonderful people in the business I love."
The speculation began in earnest recently when reports circulated that he had a hand in getting his alleged sweetheart, Broadway star David Burtka, a role on "Mother." Harris' publicist Craig Schneider quickly followed those stories by releasing the statment, "He's not of that persuasion." But apparently he is.
Harris, 33, is just the latest male star to come out. Earlier this year Lance Bass, from uber boy band 'N Sync, announced he was gay, as did "Grey's Anatomy" actor T.R. Knight.
Harris first broke out as the brainy teen doctor "Doogie Howser, M.D." when he was 16. He performed in the musical "Rent" and was seen as a whacked-out version of himself on the big screen in "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle."
On "Mother," Harris plays Barney, the narcisstic, womanizing guy in a group of five friends.
