Long Goodbye for 'Nip/Tuck'
FX series sets 2011 as end date
The cable network announced Tuesday that the series, which has been a buzz magnet and ratings stalwart for five seasons, will bow out after 100 episodes. But fans will have plenty of time to come to terms with that -- the final episode isn't slated to air until early 2011.
FX President John Landgraf says the show recently finished production on the final eight episodes of its fifth season, which were initially set for this spring but got pushed back in the wake of the writers' strike. They're now set to debut in January.
The network has also ordered 19 additional episodes, which will bring "Nip/Tuck's" total to an even 100. The final season will likely be broken up into two batches and air in 2010 and '11.
Creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy will remain with "Nip/Tuck" until the run ends, Landgraf says.
"Nip/Tuck" won a Golden Globe for best drama series in 2005 and earned Murphy an Emmy nomination for directing the pilot episode in 2004. The series has consistently drawn strong ratings for FX, ranking among the top series on ad-supported cable among adults 18-49 throughout its run.
