FOX's 'Fringe' Adds 'Lord of the Rings' Co-Star
John Noble and Lance Reddick cast in J.J. Abrams-produced pilot
In addition to Noble, "The Wire" co-star Lance Reddick has been added to what is expected to be a two-hour, $10 million pilot.
Scripted by Abrams and frequent cohorts Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, "Fringe" focuses on a young female FBI agent whose investigations into unexplained phenomena lead her to an eccentric research scientist (Noble) and his estranged son.
It was announced last week that Mark Valley and Kirk Acevedo will play FBI agents in the Alex Graves-directed pilot. It was also reported that Tomas Arana would be playing the head of the paranormal-obsessed Fringe division of Homeland security.
Not so fast on that last part, The Hollywood Reporter now says, claiming that Arana's casting was "erroneously confirmed." It turns out that that part will actually be played by Reddick.
While his credits include "Fracture," "Running Scared" and TV appearances including "24" and "Journeyman," Noble is almost certainly best known from his work as Denethor in "The Return of the King."
Reddick is now in his fifth season as upwardly mobile lawman Cedric Daniels on HBO's "The Wire." His feature credits include "The Siege" and "Don't Say a Word," though you may also have spotted him in a new Cadillac commercial.
