LOS ANGELES -- Cary Elwes, recently seen as the young Pope John Paul II on CBS, is angling for his first regular role on a TV series with the NBC pilot "Sky."

Elsewhere on the casting front, former "Ally McBeal" star Greg Germann and Kelly Hu ("X2") have signed onto ABC's comedy "In Case of Emergency," Bruno Campos ("Nip/Tuck") will star in a comedy at NBC and former "Practice" star Kelli Williams is joining another legal drama at ABC.

In "Sky," Elwes will play a politician who's killed but gets a second chance at life via reincarnation, the showbiz trade papers report. The show comes from writer Willie Reale ("Homicide," "Keen Eddie") and is being produced by NBC late-night host Conan O'Brien's company. Missi Pyle ("The Wayne Brady Show") and Cress Williams ("Providence") have also joined the show.

Elwes played the young Karol Wojtyla in CBS' "Pope John Paul II" biopic last year. "The Princess Bride" star's credits also include "Saw" and a recurring part on "The X-Files."

Also at NBC, Campos will star in an untitled comedy about brothers who live next door to one another and work on opposite sides of the law. He's coming off a turn as the Carver on FX's "Nip/Tuck."

ABC's "In Case of Emergency," which already has a six-episode commitment, revolves around four former high-school friends who are reunited in their 30s -- two of whom will be played by Germann and Hu. Germann also stars in the upcoming Sci Fi Channel series "Eureka"; Hu had a recurring part on "CSI: NY" earlier this season.

Also at ABC, Williams has signed onto the drama "Women in Law," and Dondre T. Whitfield ("Jake in Progress") and Sarah Lafleur ("Shall We Dance") have joined the comedy "Our Thirties."
