'Sunday Night Football' Thinks Pink
Grammy winner records theme song for NBC games
"Monday Night Football," of course, has Hank Williams Jr. and his football-ified version of "All My Rowdy Friends ...," performed this year with an all-star band featuring Clarence Clemons, Bootsy Collins and Little Richard, among others.
NBC has countered with Grammy-winning tough-girl pop star Pink, who will sing the "Sunday Night Football" theme song when the Peacock begins its new football franchise on Sept. 7 (which is actually a Thursday, so that version will have special lyrics).
The song, "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night," will match gridiron-specific lyrics to the music of Joan Jett's tune "I Hate Myself for Loving You."
"A football fan knows the anticipation of waiting all day for the big game. When you hear this song on Sunday nights you'll know the big game is about to kick off," "SNF" producer Fred Gaudelli says. "We chose Pink as the signature voice because she is a tremendous talent with a crossover appeal that makes her relevant to all segments of our audience. And she's from Philly, so she knows what being a football fan is all about."
NBC also has multiple Oscar winner John Williams ("Star Wars," "Saving Private Ryan") composing the instrumental theme music for "Sunday Night Football" and the pregame show "Football Night in America." Williams has worked with the network in the past, composing theme music for NBC's Olympics broadcasts and the news division.
